This year’s Shanghai Auto Show is really showing the future of automotive technologies. Let’s dive into one of the spotlight: Megawatt Charging.
Fast Charging is always an important tech for NEVs, especially pure-electric vehicles that need faster charging times, and longer endurance, in order to compete with gasoline vehicles. Here are the FOUR companies showing their latest innovations.
BYD: Megawatt Ultra-Fast Charging
BYD unveiled its Megawatt Ultra-Fast Charging System at the 2025 Shanghai Auto Show, featuring a 1,000V architecture and 10C high-rate batteries, which can achieve 1 MW peak power with 1,000A current. Translation, a peak charging speed of 2 km per second per second, which equals 400 km of range in 5 minutes. The latest Han L and Tang L flagship sedans are armed with this technology, entering the market in early April, while according to BYD, the mass production wil start by Q1 2026.
CATL: 2nd-Gen Shenxing 12C Battery
Chinese battery giant CATL is showcasing its upgraded Shenxing Ultra-Fast Battery on site. The battery delivers 1.3 MW peak power (12C rate), adding 2.5 km of range per second, faster than BYD. A five-minute charge will give the car 520 km of CLTC range. Commercialization and deployed onto premium EV models may start by the end of 2025.
Huawei: Liquid-Cooled Megawatt Charger
Huawei have its Fully Liquid-Cooled Megawatt Charging Solution. The tech peak power is up to 1.5 MW, enabling recharge 20kWh per minute. Its dual-gun output can reach 2,400A, capable of charging from 10%-90% in 15 munities for heavy-duty trucks, saving almost 45-munite charging time, compared with conventional DC fast chargers.
Zeekr: V4 Ultra-Charging Station
Zeekr’s V4 Megawatt Charging Hub made its debut on-site. The charger features 1.3 MW single-gun output (1,300A). Zeekr built its first V4 Ultra-Charging Station in Hangzhou, with a 1,440 kW total capacity. The station will be expanding to pilot cities such as Shenzhen and Beijing, aining to support its vehicles adopting Zeekr’s 900V-platform, including the 9X SUV.
