BYD’s high-performance electric supercar YangWang U9 has been unveiled, offering a breathtaking acceleration of 0-100 km/h in just 2.36 seconds with its LFP (lithium iron phosphate) battery.
YangWang U9, available in China for 1.68 million yuan, showcases BYD's cutting-edge technology, including the e4 platform and the innovative Disus X suspension system. This advanced suspension allows the U9 to operate in unique ways, such as driving on three wheels, jumping, or dancing.
Powered by four electric motors, the U9 generates a combined output of 960 kW (1287 hp) and peak torque of 1,680 Nm, delivering exceptional performance. The Ultimate 9 (U9) is an all-wheel-drive vehicle that not only accelerates rapidly, but also boasts impressive quarter-mile drag race times of 9.78 seconds.
Interestingly, unlike many high-end cars, the U9 opts for BYD's lithium iron phosphate (LFP) Blade battery pack instead of the more common NCM chemistry battery, which ensures longer battery life and better safety characteristics.
With an official top speed of 309.19 km/h, the YangWang U9 has undergone rigorous testing on the Shanghai International Circuit, achieving an impressive lap time of 2 minutes, 17 seconds, and 65 milliseconds.
The LFP battery, with a capacity of 80 kWh, offers a range of 465 km based on the CLTC (China Light-duty Vehicle Test Cycle) standards. With a maximum charging power of 500 kW, the battery can be charged from 30% to 80% in just 10 minutes, thanks to the 800V architecture.
The cockpit system, named DiLink, is powered by a state-of-the-art 5G and 4nm chip, co-developed by BYD and Qualcomm, providing seamless connectivity and exceptional processing speed.
Expected deliveries of the YangWang U9 are scheduled for mid-2024. This high-performance electric supercar aims to compete with other powerful sedans like Geely's Lotus Emeya and GAC Aion's Hyper SSR, both offering over 1224 horsepower. The U9 also aims to attract Chinese owners of prestigious brands like Ferrari or Lamborghini.
