Geely, SAIC, Chery, Great Wall Report Robust May Sales

The new car sales figures are release by main carmakers in China. BYD still domain the lead, while Geely and SAIC reported robust surge.

BYD Achieves Record 382,500 NEV Sales in May 2025

BYD sold 382,500 new energy vehicles (NEVs) in May 2025. The company reported approximately 89,000 units sold overseas. Here are the sales data for BYD’s sub-brands:

• BYD Dynasty & Ocean: 348,400 units;
• FangChengBao: 12,600 units;
• Denza: 15,800 units;
• Yangwang: 139 units.

Geely Automobile's May Sales Reach 235,208 Units

Geely Automobile’s May passenger car sales reached 235,208 units (+46% YoY). Accumulatively, the company sold a total of 1,173,144 units (+49% YoY) from January to May totaled.

Notably, NEV sales surged 135% YoY to 138,021 units in May, across all Geely brands, such as Geely, Lynk & Co, and Zeekr. Thus, the NEV sales of the company accounted for 59% of its total sales in May. Accumulatively, Geely’s NEV sales exceeded 600,000 units (+137% YoY) from January to May.

It is worth mentioning that, Geely Galaxy, Geely’s NEV arm, sold a total of 1,036,123 units, becoming the fastest NEV brand to surpass one million units.

SAIC Group Reports 50.30% Growth in May NEV Sales

SAIC Group’s May sales report indicated a 10.15% increase YoY, bringing the May sales to 365,983 units. While the NEV sales boosted 50.30% YoY to 124,575 units.

Chery Group's Vehicle Sales in May Grow by 9.1%

In May, Chery Group sold 205,732 units (+9.1% YoY), with Chery Automobile Co., Ltd. Alone selling majority of the cars (191,567 units, +7.2% YoY). The group’s NEV sales hit 63,169 units (+47.7% YoY) with an export sales of 100,737 units (+7.7% YoY).

Chery Group’s cumulative vehicle sales reached 1,026,517 units, (+14% YoY) from January to May. The group's NEV sales totaled 287,798 units (+111.5% YoY), and exports reached 443,940 units, retaining the crown in overseas export field among Chinese car exporters.

Great Wall Motors Posted 102,231 Units Sold in May

Great Wall Motors announced a sales of 102,231 units in May, (+11.78% YoY). Overseas sales climbed to 34,535 units, and NEV sales hit 32,638 units.

Accumulatively, GWM sold 157,590 units from January to May, 124,009 units of which were NEVs.

Changan Automobile’s May Sales Show a 9% Increase

Changan Automobile sold 224,310 units (+9% YoY) in May, with 94,828 units (+70% YoY) of NEV. Among these, Changan’s NEV sub-brands, Qiyuan, Deepal and Avatr reported robust growth in sales, recording 36,579 units (+67% YoY), 25,521 units(+78% YoY), and 12,767 units (+179% YoY), respectively.
