Chinese Automakers Demonstrate Strong Overseas Sales Growth in August
As August came to end, Chinese major automakers have released robust August sales figures, in which we noticed a highlighting sale in overseas markets. Driven by policy incentives and consumer need, Chinese automakers are changing the overseas market by gradually capturing market shares. Here we dive into four Chinese automakers with their notable international performance.
BYD’s Impressive Overseas Expansion Accelerates
First of all, BYD, the NEV giant, maintained stable global sales of 370,000 units in August, and cumulatively January-August sales reaching 2.864 million units. BYD’s overseas sales made a 146.4% YoY surge, bringing its August overseas sales surpassing 80,000 units; during Jan-Aug period, its overseas sales reached over 630,000 units. By reviewing BYD’s full-year sales target, we learned that the company is expecting 5.5 million vehicles delivered in 2025, including 800,000 overseas. According to its sales figure in the first eight months overseas, we anticipate that BYD may have a greater potential of increasing sales from international markets.
SAIC Motor Strengthens European Market Position
When we talk about global auto market, Europe is an important one for automakers. Shanghai-based SAIC Motor has always doubled down on the European market. Let’s check out the total sales of SAIC in August. The company sold 366,000 vehicles in August (+41% YoY), in which 88,000 were delivered in overseas markets, marking a 10.5% YoY increase.
Accumulatively, SAIC’s Jan-Aug sales reached 2.943 million units, with overseas sales growing to 664,000 units (+2.3% YoY). Its subsidiary, MG, made major attribution to the overseas sales.
MG sold 200,000 units in Europe during the first eight months, reflecting a 20% growth YoY, bringing it to the top-selling Chinese brand in the region. To be specific, MG performed pretty well in other European countries, including Norway, Spain, and the Czech Republic.

Chery Automobile Sets New Export Records
Chery Automobile, the No.1 Chinese auto exporter, shipped 129,000 vehicles overseas in August, a 32.3% YoY increase, marking its fourth consecutive month exceeding 100,000 exports. What’s more? August also marked its new monthly overseas sales record. Cumulatively, Chery Automobile exported 799,000 units in Jan-Aug period, marking a 10.8% YoY increase.
Changan Auto Expands Export Footprint Globally
Changan Auto reported a total of 233,000 vehicles sold in August, including 56,000 overseas deliveries, an increase of 23% YoY. Notably, its subsidiary Deepal Auto claimed that the company has expanded to 70+ countries and regions. Furthermore, it launched sales in Egypt, Mexico, Nepal, and Paraguay in this August.
