On March 4, Huawei officially released the world’s highest-specification mass-produced LiDAR: an *896-line dual-optical path image-grade system. This breakthrough hardware is set to become the standard for high-end intelligence within the Harmony Intelligent Mobility Alliance (HIMA) ecosystem, starting with flagship models like Maextro S800, and AITO M9.
The Leap to 3D Imaging: Seeing Beyond Points
The 896-line LiDAR utilizes Huawei’s proprietary dual-optical path technology, increasing overall resolution by four times compared to previous 192-line systems. Jin Yuzhi, CEO of Huawei Intelligent Automotive Solution BU, stated that this technology pushes vehicle perception into the "3D Imaging Era." The system can identify a 14cm object at a distance of 120 meters and can even capture subtle details, such as a dog wagging its tail 55 meters away at night. This precision solves long-standing industry challenges regarding low-reflectivity and irregularly shaped obstacles.
Enhanced Durability for Extreme Environments
Beyond perception, Huawei has fortified the hardware for real-world longevity. The sensor features a specialized high-transparency tempered glass magnetic window, which increases surface hardness by 25% and doubles overall durability. Official testing involved a 3,000km high-intensity trial in severe sandstorm conditions, resulting in zero surface damage. This ensures that the high-precision optics remain functional throughout the vehicle's lifespan, even in harsh climates.
Maextro S800 and AITO M9 Lead the Flagship Rollout
The new LiDAR debuted on the Maextro S800 and the AITO M9 Flagship Edition, both of which have opened for pre-orders. The Maextro S800, a high-end luxury sedan, starts at RMB 708,000 (USD 102,600). Meanwhile, the refreshed AITO M9 starts at RMB 469,800 (USD 68,100).
Besides, GAC’s Hyper A800, the first flagship sedan equipped with Huawei ADS 4.1 and the 896-line LiDAR, entered the market on March 4th, pricing between RMB 164,800 (USD 23,900) to RMB 274,800 (USD 39,800).
The rollout is set to accelerate throughout March. Other upcoming models confirmed to feature the 896-line LiDAR include the Voyah Taishan (Ultra and Dark Knight editions), SAIC Z7 and Z7T, the Avatr 12 (RMB 300,000, or USD 43,500 and RMB 320,000, or USD 46,400)—and the Qijing shooting brake (co-developed by Huawei and GAC), priced between RMB 300,000 (USD 43,500) and RMB 400,000 (USD 58,000). Even the more accessible AITO M6 is expected to offer the sensor as a high-trim standard.
