SAIC's unique sub-brand, IM Motors, has proved its mettle once again within the autonomous car industry. On April 3rd, 2024, the company revealed a video showing the impressive test results of its newest sedan, the IM L6 performing a driverless moose test. The car successfully managed a speed of 71km/h during the test.
Usually, the moose test is a challenging one for vehicles, requiring them to swerve and then swerve back again to regain their original driving line, mimicking the sudden appearance of a moose on the road. However, the IM L6 not only successfully completed this test, but it did so without a driver behind the wheel.
IM Motors attributes this achievement to the car's sophisticated 'Smart Digital Chassis' that the company has developed. The chassis is fitted with a Vehicle Motion Controller (VMC) that can command and control motion in six directions: front, rear, left, right, up, and down. It integrates the power of the steering, braking, and suspension systems to achieve seamless movement control.
Furthermore, the IM L6 has introduced groundbreaking features such as being able to 'walk' sideways and turning 45 degrees on the spot for easy parking.
The IM L6 sedan’s specification is built on an 800V architecture with dimensions exceeding a 4.9 meters length and a 2.95 meters wheelbase. It is powered by a semi-solid-state battery that offers a peak power of 475 kW and ultra-impressive CLTC mileage of over 1000 kilometers, while offering a thrilling acceleration from 0-100 km/h in a matter of seconds.
IM L6 is anticipated to be competitively priced in the range of CNY 250,000-350,000, aiming to compete against other electric sedans in the market, such as the Xiaomi SU7, Zhiji S7, Jike 007/001, and the Tesla Model 3.
