The "2023 Japan EV of the Year" awards saw BYD winning prestigious spots—the DOLPHIN taking the top prize and the ATTO 3 securing third place—an incredible feat for an international entrant in such a short period. This also marks the first time a Chinese carmaker has received such recognitions.

The BYD DOLPHIN, the second model launched in the Japanese market, garnered the most votes with its exceptional performance, cutting-edge driving assistance technologies, and accessibility. The pure electric hatchback is also engineered with precision to cater to the needs of the Japanese market. The overall height, for instance, has been modified to accommodate mechanical parking facilities that are commonly found in Japan.

The BYD ATTO 3, slated for third place, is the first BYD new energy passenger vehicle sold in Japan. It has received widespread acclaim and recognition for its stylish exterior design, spacious interior, and outstanding performance. As one of the most pioneering pure electric SUVs in the market, the vehicle underscores BYD's commitment to driving experience, and to blending aesthetic appeal with functionality.

It’s that time of the year when juries hand out awards to vehicles that excel in their specific categories. One of these is the Japan EV of the Year, jointly organized by Enechange and EVsmart. The winners, determined by votes from journalists, key figures in EV-related companies, and readers, highlight BYD's influential presence and reaffirm its leadership in the electric vehicle domain.

It’s also worth noting that none of the Japanese EVs made it to the top of the list this year, which goes to show that Japan still has quite a long way when it comes to EVs.
