BYD Sold 1.3809 Million NEVs in Jan-Apr 2025, Up 46.98% YoY

BYD reported April 2025 new energy vehicle (NEV) sales of 380,100 units, a 21.33% year-on-year increase. Cumulative sales for the first four months reached 1.3809 million units, surging 46.98% compared to the same period in 2024.



China’s NEV Startups Post April Delivery Surges: XPeng Up 273%

Chinese NEV startups disclosed April delivery figures on May 1, with Leapmotor leading at 41,039 units (273% YoY growth). XPENG followed with 35,045 deliveries (+173%), Li Auto 33,939 (+31.6%), while Xiaomi delivered over 28,000 units, NIO 23,900 vehicles (+53%), Avatr 11,681 (+122.6%), and VOYAH 10,019 (+150%). Zeekr saw an 18.7% rise to 41,316 units, reflecting intensifying competition in premium segments.  



Chery Nears Deal to Produce Cars at Volkswagen’s German Plants  


Chery is finalizing an agreement to manufacture its Lepas brand vehicles at Volkswagen’s Dresden and Osnabrück plants in Germany, per April 30 reports. The deal would mark the first localized production by a Chinese automaker in Germany’s automotive heartland. Chery aims to leverage VW’s idle capacity to bypass EU tariffs and target European markets with its Omoda and Jaecoo SUVs.  



Xiaomi Auto Expanded to 269 Stores in April, to Add 8 Cities in May  


Xiaomi Auto announced on April 30 that its retail network grew to 269 stores across 74 Chinese cities in April, with 29 additional outlets planned for May to cover 8 new cities like Yichang and Wuhu. The company also operates 132 service centers in 79 cities, supporting its SU7 sedan’s rapid delivery ramp.
