On April 16, it was revealed that the Buick GL8 would be available as both a plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV) and a traditional hybrid variant. The official launch date for both editions is April 27.
PHEV Version of GL8
Many potential consumers are interested in the GL8 plug-in hybrid electric version since it looks quite similar to the 2022 GL8 Century edition.
The latest pictures from the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology show the new GL8's elegant exterior design, which follows Buick's hallmark look. The front side features split LED headlights, integrated LED daytime running lights, and a charging connector on the passenger side for the plug-in hybrid variant. Both variants have 18-inch alloy wheels.
The GL8's interior maintains Buick's signature large cabin style. The PHEV edition will include a second-row folding table, a sliding center armrest, and the option of an integrated refrigerator for ultimate comfort when traveling.
Powertrain Configuration and Efficiency
Buick GL8 PHEV features a newly developed plug-in hybrid electrical drive unit, a next-generation plug-in hybrid battery, and a 1.5-liter hybrid engine with Miller cycle that produces a total power output of 292 kW and torque of 580 Nm. According to the CLTC (Chinese standardized testing), the GL8 PHEV has an excellent combined range of 1370 kilometers.
With its hybrid powertrain, modern appearance, outstanding sales history, and spacious interior, the Buick GL8 PHEV variant is poised to make a huge impact on the Chinese market following its April 27th introduction, when more pricing and choices will be announced.
