CPCA: China's 2025 Vehicle Retail Sales Reach 24.024 Million Units

The China Passenger Car Association (CPCA) released data on January 9 indicating China's passenger vehicle retail sales totaled 24.024 million units, marking a 3.9% increase from 2024. In December, China's passenger vehicle retail sales reached a total of 2.276 million units, reflecting a 14.5% year-on-year decline. Specifically, December 2025 new energy passenger vehicle retail sales in the domestic market achieved 1.337 million units, growing 2.6% year-on-year and 1.2% month-on-month. Cumulative retail sales from January to December 2025 reached 12.809 million units for NEVs, representing a significant 17.6% annual growth, highlighting the segment's continued expansion amid broader market fluctuations.

CPCA's Cui Dongshu Forecasts Approximately 10% NEV Sales Growth for 2026

CPCA Secretary-General Cui Dongshu stated on January 9 that the association maintains a relatively optimistic outlook for new energy vehicle retail sales growth in 2026, projecting an increase of approximately 10%. "The NEV market achieved over 20% high-speed growth in 2025, with pure electric vehicles demonstrating particularly strong momentum, and mini EVs contributing substantially to the overall expansion," Cui noted. However, considering the impact of next year's vehicle purchase tax policies and the proportional subsidy structure of trade-in programs, the growth rate for mini EVs is expected to decelerate noticeably, which will subsequently affect the overall growth of domestic NEV retail sales in 2026.
