China's 2025 Auto Exports: NEVs Gain Ground, Pure ICE Share Declines to 43%

According to data released by Passenger Car Association (PCA) Secretary-General Cui Dongshu on January 25, China's automotive export momentum remained robust through December 2025. The country exported 990,000 vehicles in December alone, surging 73% year-on-year and 23% month-on-month. For the full year 2025, cumulative exports reached a record 8.32 million units, growing 30% compared to 2024. The annual export mix highlights the rising prominence of new energy vehicles: pure electric (BEV) models accounted for 28% of total exports (up 2 percentage points year-on-year), plug-in hybrids (PHEV) for 13% (up 8 points), and hybrids (HEV) for 6% (up 2 points). Consequently, the share of pure internal combustion engine vehicles declined to 43%, down 11 percentage points from the previous year, reflecting a clear structural shift toward electrification in China's overseas automotive trade.

China's NEV Parc Hits 43.97 Million, Accounting for 12% of Total Vehicles

Statistics from the Ministry of Public Security of China show that China's new energy vehicle fleet continues its rapid expansion. By the end of 2025, the national NEV inventory reached 43.97 million units, representing 12.01% of the country's total automobile parc. Within this segment, pure electric vehicles formed the majority with an inventory of 30.22 million, constituting 68.74% of all NEVs. The growth trajectory remained strong in 2025, with 12.93 million new NEV registrations throughout the year. This figure accounts for 49.38% of all new vehicle registrations, marking an increase of 1.68 million units and a growth rate of 14.93% compared to 2024, underscoring sustained consumer adoption.
