Tank 500, Tank’s luxury-business flagship, got revamped and started pre-sale lately. On August 11, the Tank 500 Smart Luxury Edition was revealed by Tank, the premium off-road sub-brand of GWM. Positioned as a "full-scenario intelligent luxury off-road SUV", the Tank 500 Smart Luxury Edition has two variants to offer, the Tank 500 Hi4-T Smart Luxury Edition at RMB 360,000 (≈ USD 50,000) and the Tank 500 Hi4-Z Smart Luxury Edition at RMB 388,800 (≈ USD 54,000).
Elegant Design Inspired by Chinese Heritage
The revamped Tank 500 Smart Luxury Edition rolls out with a redesigned exterior, which draws inspiration from classic elements on Chinese architecture, blending traditional grandeur with imposing presence. The car delivers a new "Dunhuang Green" exterior color option, showcasing a sophisticated aesthetic.
Advanced Intelligent and Premium Features
Beyond the exterior update, the car features significant updates on intelligent and premium configurations.
The car comes standard with its premium Coffee Pilot Ultra, GWM’s third-gen ADAS, enabling comprehensive assistance for various driving scenarios including urban streets, highways, rural roads, and private compounds.
Inside the cabin, the Coffee OS 3 system, Tank’s third gen in-house developed smart cabin system, features:
- Six interconnected displays.
- A rear ceiling screen, which can be controlled in six different ways.
- Coffee Air Touch, a gesture recognition system, can correctly recognize and excute rear-seat commands
- All the seats adopt Nappa leather with eight layers offering a skin-friend experience, and all seats have functions like ventilation, heating, and massage.

Powertrain Performance and Electric Range
The Tank 500 Hi4-T Smart Luxury Edition is powered by a 2.0T engine, a single electric motor and a 9AT, delivering a 300kW combined power, and 110km WLTC pure-electric range. While the Tank 500 Hi4-Z Smart Luxury Edition utilizes 2.0T engine, dual electric motors and 3-speed DHT, boosting 635kW combined power, with 0-100km/h acceleration of 4.6 seconds, and 201km WLTC pure-electric range.
A Strong Contender in Luxury Off-Road Segment
Right after the launch, the brand announced that the model received over 7,289 orders in two hours. With a Chinese cultural design cues, cutting-edge AI and driver assistance technology, the Tank 500 Smart Luxury Edition positions a strong competitor, rivalling with its formidable peers such as the Toyota Land Cruiser Prado, Ford Explorer, and FangChengBao Bao 8.
