February 22nd, Chinese EV maker XPENG shipped 300 units of the right-handed X9 electric MPVs from Guangzhou’s Nansha Port to Southeast Asia. According to the company, this is the 255th overseas shipment XPENG launched ever since its establishment.
The 3000 units of X9 MPVs is planned to be directly shipped to Southeast Asian markets, such as Thailand. Aligning with XPENG’s “Go Global 2.0” strategy, the company is aiming to rank among the world’s top 3 NEV exporters by the year of 2027, and achieve 50% of tis annual sales from overseas market by 2033.
Smart Tech Over Scale: A Vision for Global Markets
Since its first export of 100 units of XPENG G3 SUVs to Europe in 2020, XPENG has expanded to over 30 countries and regions all around the world. He Xiaopeng, the CEO of XPENG, stated at the ceremony, “We want overseas customers to associate Chinese EVs with cutting-edge intelligence, not just affordability.”
Take Southeast Asia as a priority, this batch of 300 X9 MPVs marks the acceleration of XPENG’s global expansion, especially in Southeast Asia. The X9 made its debut in Thailand and Malaysia in Q4 2024, and is expected to debut in Singapore and Indonesia in Q2 2025.
Domestic Sales Performance
The X9, firstly launched in China in January 2024, achieved about 2000 monthly sales, and 25,000 units by December 2024. Positioned as a premium electric MPV, the car is buoyed by its rear-wheel steering and autonomous driving technology.
Roadmap: Global Charging and AI-Driven Autonomy
Here’s something more exciting for XPENG. Yesterday, on the 25th of February, He Xiaopeng also announced that XPENG plans to launch its Turing AI autonomous driving platform globally in 2025. Simultaneously, its 480kW ultra-fast charging network will expand to 15 overseas hubs by late 2025.
Just as He puts it: “This isn’t just about cars—it’s about exporting China’s tech ecosystem.”
