Volkswagen Group Unveils Agentic AI and NEV Roadmap
On April 21, Volkswagen Group officially released its "Agentic AI for All" roadmap, outlining a phased integration of autonomous artificial intelligence across its fleet. Starting in 2026, new models based on the China Electronic Architecture (CEA) will feature on-board AI agents. By 2027, the group plans to introduce the CEA 2.0 architecture, which will integrate cockpit and driving functions into a unified, autonomous intelligent system. This technology is slated to scale across all powertrain types within the group’s portfolio.
The strategic plan for the Chinese market is extensive. Volkswagen confirmed that its brands will launch over 20 intelligent electrified models in China this year alone. By 2027, the cumulative number of New Energy Vehicle (NEV) offerings in China will reach approximately 30 models, expanding to 50 models by 2030. Of these 2030 offerings, approximately 30 will be battery-electric vehicles (BEVs).
Global Debut of Four Strategic Models
To demonstrate its localized R&D progress, the group presented the global premiere of four vehicles: the Volkswagen ID. AURA T6, UNYX 09, AUDI E7X, and the JETTA X concept car. These models target diverse segments ranging from entry-level NEVs to premium large SUVs.
The Volkswagen ID. AURA T6 is the inaugural model of the new ID. AURA series. Positioned as a mid-size pure electric SUV, it is built on the locally developed CEA architecture. The vehicle features enhanced L2+ advanced driving assistance systems and is designed for continuous over-the-air (OTA) remote updates to ensure software longevity.
The UNYX 09 (与众 09) shares its platform with the UNYX 08 and is positioned as a full-size pure electric sedan with a length of 5 meters. The vehicle integrates high-performance computing platforms and a dedicated AI intelligent assistant alongside its enhanced L2 driving systems.
The AUDI E7X represents a major milestone as the brand's first SUV built on the Intelligent Digital Platform co-developed with SAIC. This large SUV will offer two power configurations: 300kW and a high-performance 500kW version. Notably, the AUDI E7X is planned to feature L3 autonomous driving capabilities, marking the global and Chinese debut of this technology for the Audi brand.
The Jetta brand also signaled its transition to the electric era with the JETTA X concept car, featuring a refreshed design and brand identity. Jetta aims to launch four NEV models by 2028, with the first production model scheduled for market entry later this year.
According to Volkswagen Group, these developments are central to maintaining market share in an increasingly competitive intelligent mobility landscape.
