BYD Sets Ambitious New Overseas Sales Targets for 2026
Following a record-breaking performance in 2025, where overseas sales of passenger vehicles and pickup trucks reached 1,049,601 units, BYD is significantly accelerating its international trajectory.
On March 30, 2026, during an analyst briefing, management expressed high confidence in achieving a revised overseas sales target of 1.5 million units for the current year. This represents a substantial increase from the initial goal of 1.3 million units set earlier this year.
This revised target implies a robust year-on-year growth rate of 43% to 53% compared to the 1.04 million units sold in overseas market in 2025. This strategic pivot comes as domestic sales growth begins to stabilize, positioning the overseas market as the primary engine for the company’s future financial performance.
Strategic Shift Toward Localized Production and "Industry Outbound”
To navigate global trade barriers and ensure sustainable operational growth overseas, BYD is transitioning from a traditional export model to a sophisticated "Industry Outbound" strategy. This involves the rapid localization of production facilities across key global regions. Currently, BYD has announced operational factories in Thailand, Uzbekistan, and Brazil, with a combined design capacity exceeding 300,000 units per year, and this number is increasing. Furthermore, the company is planning additional production hubs in Hungary, Malaysia, and Cambodia.
This localized approach allows BYD to better serve regional demands while mitigating logistics costs and regulatory risks. Currently, BYD's footprint spans 119 countries across six continents. In Europe, the brand plans to expand its service network to 2,000 outlets, building on its impressive performance in markets like Spain, where its market share has already reached 9.7%.
Technological Innovations and Infrastructure Support
BYD is reinforcing its global expansion with cutting-edge technology and infrastructure development. The company has introduced its second-generation Blade Battery and a revolutionary flash charging system.
The flash charging system is capable of achieving a "5-minute quick charge and 9-minute full charge" cycle, directly addressing the primary pain point for global EV users: charging anxiety. To support this, BYD plans to implement a massive deployment of flash charging stations in overseas markets starting in 2027. This complete localization of the energy replenishment ecosystem is expected to provide a significant competitive advantage.
