Chinese auto sales data of this April has been unveiled by major automakers. Domestic automakers are performing steadily with their increasing NEV sales and excellent exports sales, according to the data.
BYD Sets April Record with 380,089 NEV Sales, Exports Surge
BYD sold 380,089 units in April 2025, a 21.3% YoY jump. Overseas deliveries hit 78,700 units including passenger cars and pickups. Besides, BYD’s sub-brands are all posting robust growth, such as Dynasty, Ocean, FangChengBao, Denza, and Yangwang. Accumulately, the automaker has sold over 1.38 million vehicles in the first four months of 2025, taking up 25% of its 2025 global sales target (5.5 million units).
SAIC Group: Dual-Power Strategy Gains Traction
SAIC Motor saw a general growth over its subsidiaries:
- SAIC Volkswagen: Gaining 83,000 April sales, marking an increase of 5.9% YoY.
- SAIC Passenger Vehicles (Roewe/MG): The two brands collectively delivers 67,898 units, driven especially by MG’s ZS and HS PHEVs in Europe.
- IM Motors: SAIC’s premier NEV brand sold 4,366 units (+55% YoY) in April, as the latest L6 sedan attracts premium buyers by its great comfort and body control, thanks to the latest wire-controlled chassis tech.
Geely Hits 54% NEV Penetration
Geely Auto Holdings reported a sales of 234,112 passenger cars in April, a 53% surge YoY, with NEVs accounting for 54%, which marks a historic high for Geely. Overseas sales reached 24,133 units. In term of sales from its sub-brands:
- Galaxy delivers 96,632 units of vehicles, seeing a 281% YoY surge, with an accumulative sales surpassing 350,000 units in the first four months of 2025.
- Zeekr secures 41,316 units of sales on April, an 18.7% increase YoY.
Chery’s NEV Sales Leap 85.5%, Exports Top 88,000 Units
Chery Group delivered 200,760 vehicles in April (+10.3% YoY), including 61,000 NEVs (+85.5% NEV penetration). Chery exports 88,000 units in April, remaining at the top among China’s automotive exporters. Chery’s accumulative sales from January to April 2025 surpassed 820,000 units, up 15.3% YoY, with NEVs surging 140.7% to 224,629. The star models were the Omoda 5 EV and Jaecoo 7 PHEV driving sales in Europe and LATAM markets.
Changan’s NEV Brands Break Delivery Records
Changan Auto managed to sell 206,047 vehicles in April, up 5.2% YoY. The sales increase was driven by its NEV arms:
- Deepal sold 20,138 units, marking a 58% YoY surge, with the SL07 sedan being the hot model among buyers.
- Avatr makes a 122.6% YoY surge in sales, amounting to 11,681 units delivered in April.
