Last night, Huawei launched several new models of its important HIMA brands including the AITO M9, M9 and SAIC H5. Today, let’s focus on the first model co-built by both SAIC Motor and Huawei, the SAIC H5.
Priced between RMB 159,800 and 199,800 (approx. USD 22,200–27,800), the model garnered over 10,000 firm orders within one hour of its release. According to Jia Jianxu, SAIC President, since SAIC H5’s pre-sales on August 25, the model has received more than 160,000 orders. Deliveries are scheduled to begin at the end of September.
Diverse Variants Catering to Broad Consumer Preferences
The SAIC H5 offers 6 variants including four pure-electric models (Pro Edition, Pro Long-range Edition, Max Edition, Max Long-range Edition) and two extended-range variant (Pro Edition and Max Edition). Among all the editions, Max trims accounts for 75% of total bookings (on 160,000 basis), reflecting that high-end configurations are strongly preferred by consumers.
Key Features that Set SAIC H5 Apart
The SAIC H5 highlights in spacious interior layout, safety configurations, advanced Huawei Qiankun Intelligent Driving ADS 4 system coming as standard for all variants, and the extra-long range (655 km for pure-electric editions, and combined range of 1,360 km for extended-range variants).
Market Positioning and Competitors
Armed with the above core strengths, intelligent configurations beyond its class, and mass-market price tag, the SAIC H5 is positioning itself as a rule-breaker of the RMB 200K segment, rivaling with Leapmotor C11 and BYD Song PLUS DM-i.
