SAIC and Huawei Introduce First HIMA Brand Model: The H5 SUV
HIMA’s fifth brand SAIC, co-established by SAIC Motor and Huawei, publicly revealed its first model – the SAIC H5 SUV – on July 14. The model will adopt Huawei’s Smart Select vehicle co-development mode. The market entry of the car is expected to be in this autumn.
Design and Dimensions Tailored for Comfort and Style
Positioned for the young consumers in the RMB 200,000 segment, the H5 features Volkswagen exterior styling, with an estimated dimensions about 4.8-meter long, which suggesting an optimized interior space.
Advanced Intelligent Features Powered by Huawei Technology
The H5’s intelligent configurations are as follows:
· Roof-mounted 192-beam lidar (the same hardware with the AITO M9 and Maextro S800)
· Huawei’s latest 4D millimeter-wave radar
· HarmonyOS-powered smart cabin, supporting multi-screen interaction, AI voice assistant, and smart home connectivity.
Versatile Powertrain Options: Range-Extended and Electric Versions
Though we now have little information about the H5, industry insiders believe that the H5 will offer both range-extended variant (1.5T engine / 1,000 km CLTC range) and an all-electric version (Huawei’s Whale battery Platform / 800V ultra-fast charging).
Context in Huawei and SAIC’s Expanding Automotive Collaboration
SAIC follows four premium brands previously co-launched by Huawei and other major car-makers in China, including AITO (with Seres), LUXEED (with Chery), STELATO (with BAIC), and MAEXTRO (with JAC). Currently AITO has M5, M7, M9 and M8 on sale, pricing between RMB 300,000 to RMB 500,000, the LUXEED S7 and R7 with prices ranging from RMB 250,000 to RMB 350,000, and the STELATO S9 priced from RMB 400,000 to RMB 450,000) and the MAEXTRO S800 with the highest pricing from RMB 700,000 to RMB 1,000,000). Some industry insiders estimates that the H5 will be pricing between RMB 170,000 and RMB 250,000 (≈USD 23,600–34,700).
