Leading the Way in Map-Free Driving Is XPeng
XPeng Motors announced on May 14, 2024, that their XNGP urban intelligent driving technology had achieved 100% HD map-free operation, rewriting the rules for urban autonomous driving. This significantly broadens the possibilities for self-driving travel.
Taking Control of the Urban Environment
In places such as Shanghai, Guangzhou, Shenzhen, and Foshan, the useable distance has increased by more than double due to the map-free intelligent driving capabilities. Along with this surge of growth, XPeng expanded its XNGP reach by an additional 30,000 kilometers in Jiangxi province and 11,000 kilometers in Shandong province.
XNGP System for Autonomy Strategy
Even in places without maps, the XNGP system offers more enjoyable driving experiences due to its ability to negotiate complicated routes, particularly those that are frequently traveled by XPeng owners. The technology is based on "navigation maps + XNet perception + driving strategies" and is designed to support the conglomerate's goal of providing full XNGP coverage in China's urban road networks by 2024.
Calculating Worldwide Profits: XPeng and the Industry
82% of XPeng's user base, or monthly active users, were registered on the XNGP system as of April 24, 2024. With these figures, XPeng is comparable to other industry participants venturing into the realm of mapless intelligent driving. First, a full quarter ahead of schedule, Ji Yue declared on May 18 that the adoption of smart driving will reach 100 cities. Second, NIO used a "road verification" strategy to introduce the NOP+ function across the country. Last but not least, Huawei has achieved nationwide urban smart driving capabilities without HD maps, launching its marketing campaign under the tagline "drivable anywhere there's a road."
Making Our Way to Decode Distance
Even if these leading automakers exhibit impressive feats in defensive driving, there is still room for improvement. For example, it's still difficult to keep a safe space between vehicles, which occasionally gives other cars a chance to pass. But with unwavering dedication and creativity, these small bugs should be fixed in next releases, paving the way for a more sophisticated, user-focused smart driving experience.
