Stricter Controls on Illegal New Car Export, More Space for Legitimate Used Cars, and Emerging Opportunities for International Model New Cars

2023 is the year of economic recovery and development after the adjustment of COVID-19 control policies, it’s also a booming year for China's used car export industry. In the past year, China’s used car export enterprises actively expanded their sales channels and accelerated their penetration in the overseas markets, achieving remarkable results. By the end of 2023,China's used car exports had surpassed 350,000 units, with more than 270,000 units exported in 2023,nearly triple the level of a year ago, hitting a new historical record. China’s used cars have been sold to more than 160 countries and regions worldwide, increasing number of overseas consumers getting to know, accept and praise China's used cars.
To help Chinese used car export enterprises understanding international market dynamics and master the import policies and regulations of used cars of various targets markets, since 2020, under the guidance of Department of Foreign trade of Ministry of Commerce, CATARC and CADCC Used Car Export Committee have published the “Chinese Used Car Export Country Comparative Guide” annually for three consecutive years. This guide offers an in-depth analysis of the export situation of China and developed export countries such as U.S.A, Japan and South Korea, summarizes the import policies, regulations, markets, tariffs and the processes in over 20 countries comprehensively, providing a valuable reference for the government and export enterprises. Up to now, the guide has been distributed more than 5,000 copies offline, and has been read online tens of thousands of times. It has become an authoritative reference book for China's used car export industry.
Following the announcement of the “Matters Relating to Used Cars Exports” by the Ministry of Commerce and Other Four Departments, there will be an increased number of enterprises participating in the used car export industry, and the target market scope for China's used car exports will continue to expand. To comprehensively and systematically summarize the achievements made in the past year in the development of used car exports from China, to analyze and research the latest dynamics of key target markets, and to guide newly entered enterprises to quickly start the used car export business, with the support of the Department of Foreign Trade of the Ministry of Commerce, we continue to compile the “Chinese Used Car Export Country
Comparative Guide (2023)."The new edition of the Guide will innovate in content and form based on previous editions, including expanding the range of key countries for used car exports and the inclusion of typical cases of foreign enterprises, and innovatively launching a bilingual(Chinese and English) version of the Guidebook. It is hoped that the release of the new edition of the Guide can effectively provide assistance to used car export enterprises, help them to obtain and grasp more overseas information, accelerate the pace of exploring overseas markets, promote the exchange and cooperation of used car export business at home and abroad, and make a greater contribution to promoting the development of China's used car export business.
