Launching its first pickup truck, the BYD Shark, in Mexico, BYD (HKG: 1211, OTCMKTS: BYDDY) is making progress in unexplored territory. The launch in Mexico represents a tactical change and emphasizes BYD's goal to pursue international markets.
The Shark from BYD is available in two versions: the GL and GS. The beginning price for each type is 899,980 Mexican pesos ($53,400) and 969,800 Mexican pesos. The pickup truck's noteworthy international launch highlighted BYD's strategic departure from its home market.
Constructed on the BYD dual-mode off-road (DMO) platform, the BYD Shark sets itself apart with its innovative blade series battery pack and dual electric motors, producing over 430 horsepower, which is a significant increase over fuel-powered trucks in the same class, according to BYD.
Interestingly, the BYD Shark's powertrain can accelerate in under 5.7 seconds from 0 to 100 kilometers per hour. High-tech features on the truck also include a rotatable central screen, remote vehicle management, and in-car voice control. Extras like a heads-up display (W-HUD) and digital key features enhance the top-notch driving experience this car has to offer.
The BYD Shark is specially made to provide environmentally friendly transportation. Its 100-kilometer New European Driving Cycle (NEDC) driving range is provided by its 29.58 kWh blade battery pack. In addition to being environmentally friendly, this model is incredibly fuel-efficient, using only 7.5 gallons per 100 kilometers.
The Shark's introduction in Mexico highlights BYD's aspirations and resolve to become a major player on the international car scene. BYD's strategic journey bears similarities to the growth trajectory of industry titans such as Toyota. With the launch of the BYD Shark, BYD has demonstrated its unwavering dedication to growing its business internationally.
