CPCA: April Passenger Vehicle Sales Hit 1.791 Million, NEV Penetration Tops 52%
China’s passenger vehicle retail sales reached 1.791 million units in April 2025, up 17% year-on-year but down 8% month-on-month, per China Passenger Car Association (CPCA) data released on May 8. January-April cumulative sales hit 6.918 million (+9% YoY). NEVs sale volume reached 922,000 units (+37% YoY), accounting for 52.3% of total sales in April, with year-to-date NEV deliveries at 3.342 million (+37%).
BYD Launches Seal 07 DM-i SUV from RMB 169,800 (USD 23,400)
BYD debuted the Seal 07 DM-i mid-to-large-sized SUV on May 8, priced between RMB 169,800 (USD 23,400) and RMB 205,800 (USD 28,400). Built on the fifth-gen DM-i platform, its 1.5T PHEV system delivers up to 150 km CLTC electric range and 1,320 km combined range, with NEDC fuel consumption as low as 4.7L/100 km. Standard features include BYD’s “God’s Eye” ADAS C Solution (highway/urban pilot assist) and an optional DJI-developed in-car drone for aerial tracking.
IM Motors’ New L6 Secures 24,000 Pre-Orders Ahead of May 13 Launch
IM Motors announced 24,000 pre-orders for its L6 electric sedan as of May 7, just 19 days after unveiling the model on April 18. The sedan offers three trims with pre-sale prices from RMB 219,900 (USD 30,300) to RMB 289,900 (USD 39,900), featuring semi-solid-state battery and up to 1002 km CLTC range. Deliveries are scheduled to begin on May 13.
SAIC-GM-Wuling Targets 2027 for Solid-State Battery Production
SAIC-GM-Wuling’s Chief Intelligent Platform Officer Shao Jie confirmed plans to commercialize solid-state batteries by 2027 during a recent tech briefing. The joint venture is optimizing cell chemistry and manufacturing processes at its Liuzhou R&D center, aiming for 500 Wh/kg energy density to power next-gen mini EVs like the Wuling Bingo.
