Entering into the fourth month of 2025, the March and Q1 sales performance of automakers on China are released one by one. Here are the latest sales numbers from major players in China auto market.
BYD: Q1 Sales Hit 986,000 Units, +58% YoY
BYD, the true NEV giant, sold 371,000 passenger cars in March, which brings the Q1 sales amounted to 986,000 units, up 57.93% compares to the same period 2024. Sub-brand Dynasty Family & Ocean Family, FangChengBao, and Denza sold 350,600 units, 8,000 units, and 12,600 units in Q1 2025, respectively. The overseas sales in Q1 reached 90,000 units. e overseas sales of BYD in Q1 totals 72,400 units. With an annual target of 5 million sales, BYD achieved a quite good beginning.
Geely: Q1 Sales Hit 704,000 Units, +48% YoY
Geely Group, might be the second largest automaker in China, reported a total of 232,000 passenger cars sold in March, which lifted its Q1 sales to 704,000 units, marking a surge of 48%, compares to the same period of 2024. The overseas sales in Q1 reached 90,000 units. Sub-brands Geely, Galaxy, Lynk&Co, and Zeekr sold 330,100 units (+7% YoY), 259,700 units (+214% YoY), 72,600 units (+19% YoY), and 41,400 units (+25% YoY) in Q1 2025, respectively.
Chery: Q1 Sales Hit 620,000 Units, +17.1% YoY, 255,000 Overseas Sales
Chery Group released a March sales of 214,800 units, up 18.3% YoY. And the Q1 sales amounted to 620,000 units, up 17.1% YoY. Chery exported a total of 255,000 units passenger cars in Q1 2025, keeping the first position among Chinese carmaker, in terms of car exports.
Dive into the sub-brands, Chery brand, Exeed, Jetour, iCAR, and Luxeed (Chery+Huawei, under HIMA) achieved 119,000 units, 7,600 units, 54,000 units, 7,000 units, and 10,000 units sales in March 2025, respectively.
GWM: March Sales Reached 98,000 Units
The Great Wall Motors reported its March sales performance as well. It managed to sell a total of 98,000 units in March 2025, with 25,200 units of NEVs, marking a 15.04% increase YoY. Breaking down to sub-brands, we saw a sales of 52,700 units from HAVAL, 4,700 units from WEY (+29.57% YoY), 17,400 units from TANK, 2,800 units from ORA, and 20,400 units from POER.
Leapmotor: March Sales Hit 37,100 units, +154% YoY
Leapmotor, a black horse among Chinese EV startups, spot the top position in March with 37,100 deliveries, a 154% increase compares to the same period in 2024. In Q1 2025, Leapmotor achieved a total of 87,600 deliveries.
Li Auto: March Sales Hit 36,700 units, +26.5% YoY
Li Auto reports that it delivered 36,700 units, up 26.5% YoY. In Q1 2025, Li Auto managed to sell 92,900 units in total, marking a 15.5% rise YoY.
XPENG: Q1 Sales Hit 94,000 Units, No. 1 among Chinese EV Startups
XPENG shared its Q1 delivery reports last night, with a total of 94,000 units delivered, marking a 331% surge compared to Q1 2024. In the first three months, XPENG kept a rising pace, with a March delivery of 33,200 units, +268% YoY. Among all the models, XPENG’s sub-brand MONA performed quite well these months, with a fourth consecutive monthly deliveries exceeding 15,000 units (exclusively the MONA M03 model), contributing nearly 50% of its monthly sales.
NIO: Q1 Sales Hit 42,100 Units, up 40.1% YoY
Though NIO reports a YoY increase on its March sales as well as the Q1 2025 sales, the numbers are not that attractive, compares to its peers, XPENG, Li Auto and Leapmotor.
The March deliveries reached 15,000 units, up 26.7% YoY, which brought the Q1 deliveries to 42,100 units, a 40.1% rise YoY. Look into the sales contributors, NIO brand sold 27,300 units, and the ONVO 14,800 units in Q1 2025. Compare to XPENG MONA, ONVO sold the same amount of cars as MONA sold in one month. That’s the gap.
