Arcfox, the premium electric vehicle arm of BAIC Group, kicked off pre-sales for its comprehensively updated Alpha S5 sedan on March 1, 2026. The new model marks a strategic expansion for the brand, introducing an extended-range electric vehicle (EREV) variant for the first time alongside its battery-electric offerings. With subsidized pre-sale prices starting at just RMB 112,800 (approximately USD 16,100), the "AI high-performance wide-body coupe" aims to democratize advanced driving assistance technology.

A Dual-Powertrain Offensive

The all-new Alpha S5 is available in six variants—four BEV and two EREV—with the subsidized price range from RMB 112,800 (approximately USD 16,100) to RMB 173,800 (approximately USD 25,200). This model introduces EREV variants for the first time in order to capture a broader customer base by addressing range anxiety.

"The all-new Alpha S5 is tailored for young people who chase new trends without blindly following them, and who seek practicality without compromise".

EREV Specifications:

- Engine: 1.5L naturally aspirated engine (105 hp).

- Motor: Single electric motor (272 hp).

- Battery: 27.4 kWh CATL LFP battery pack.

- Range: 230 km CLTC pure electric / 1,450 km CLTC combined.

- Charging: 30%-80% in 15 minutes.

- Fuel Economy: 4.5L/100 km (WLTC).

BEV Specifications:

- Architecture: Built on an 800V high-voltage platform.

- Range: Available with 630 km up to 720 km CLTC range.

- Charging: Supports 5C ultra-fast charging (540 km range in 15 min).

- Performance (Dual-Motor AWD): Combined output of 390 kW (530 hp) and 690 N·m, accelerating from 0-100 km/h in 3.7 seconds.

Intelligent Driving as a Core Proposition

Arcfox is leveraging its experience with L3 autonomous driving development to bring advanced features to the mass market. The Alpha S5 is equipped with the BAIC Yuanjing intelligent driving assistance system (北汽元境智能辅助驾驶系统). Key highlights include:

- Vision-Based Precision: The system utilizes DJI Zhoyu's "Inertial Navigation Binocular Stereo Vision System," which mimics human depth perception and incorporates IMU technology to function like a pair of professional anti-shake, anti-glare glasses.

- Full-Scenario Navigation: It supports City NCA (Navigation Cruise Assist) that does not rely on high-definition maps, capable of handling complex scenarios like unprotected left turns and obstacle avoidance. Highway NCA provides end-to-end assistance including autonomous ramp entry and exit.

- User-Centric Design: A unique "little blue light" illuminates on the exterior when the assisted driving system is active, signaling the vehicle's autonomous operation to pedestrians and other vehicles.

- Seamless Parking: With nine smart parking functions, it supports cross-floor memory parking, accurately navigating into narrow spaces.

The entire intelligent system is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8775 cockpit-driving-parking integrated chip, ensuring swift and seamless processing.

Sales Performance

The S5 recorded cumulative sales of 33,491 units for the full year 2025. With this comprehensive package of accessible pricing, cutting-edge intelligence, and versatile powertrains, the all-new Arcfox Alpha S5 is positioned to be a formidable contender in China's intensely competitive new energy vehicle market as 2026 unfolds.
