BYD Sealion 05 Series Market Launch and Pricing
On April 20, BYD's Ocean Network officially released the 2026 Sealion 05. The model offers two powertrain: EV and PHEV. The official guidance price for the Sealion 05 EV ranges from RMB 119,900 (USD 17,400) to RMB 145,900 (USD 21,100), and the Sealion 05 DM-i, between RMB 97,900 (USD 14,200) and RMB 127,900 (USD 18,500). This annual refresh unifies the design language across both power types for the first time, featuring a closed grille, wave-style LED light strips, and high-visibility "C-shaped" headlamps.
The 2026 model also introduces physical dimension optimizations. The vehicle now measures 4620mm in length, 1860mm in width, and 1630mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2770mm. These adjustments specifically aim to improve rear legroom and passenger comfort. The Sealion family is positioned as the third major growth pillar for the Ocean Network, following the success of the Seagull and Seal series.
Advanced Powertrain and Fifth-Generation DM Technology
The core of the Sealion 05 upgrade lies in its powertrain systems. The DM-i variant utilizes BYD’s fifth-generation DM hybrid technology, pairing a 1.5L engine (74kW) with a 120kW drive motor. Moving away from short-range entry models, the 2026 version offers 26.6kWh and 34.3kWh battery packs, delivering CLTC pure electric ranges of 220km and 305km, extending the comprehensive range of the DM-i model to a maximum of 2,105km.
The Sealion 05 EV is constructed on the e-Platform 3.0 Evo architecture, utilizing a rear-wheel-drive layout with motor outputs of 200kW or 240kW. It achieves CLTC pure electric ranges of 540km and 630km. Technical data provided by the manufacturer highlights the integration of second-generation Blade batteries and advanced flash-charging technology. Under standard temperature conditions, the EV version can charge from 10% to 97% capacity in just 9 minutes.
Intelligent Cockpit and God’s Eye Driving Systems
Interior refinements for the 2026 Sealion 05 include a "Marine Rhythm" wrap-around cockpit featuring a 15.6-inch adaptive rotating floating screen and the latest DiLink intelligent system. The center console has been redesigned with an electronic column shifter, freeing up significant space on the sub-dashboard which now includes a 50W wireless mobile charging panel. These updates reflect a shift toward a more digital-first, ergonomic user experience.
In terms of intelligence, some models come standard with DiPilot 100 (God’s Eye C). However, the premium highlight is the optional DiPilot 300 (God’s Eye B Lidar version). This high-spec suite integrates Lidar sensors to support advanced functions including City Navigation on Autopilot (CNOA), Highway Navigation on Autopilot (HNOA), and Emergency Steering Assist (ESA). According to technical reports, the system is capable of full-scenario obstacle avoidance, yielding to traffic, and navigating complex roundabouts, placing the Sealion 05 at the forefront of intelligent assistance in the sub-RMB 160,000 segment.
