BYD Reports April Sales of 321,100 Units


On May 1, BYD released its production and sales report for April 2026, recording total sales of 321,100 units. This figure compares to 380,100 units sold during the same period last year. From January to April, the company's cumulative sales reached 1,021,600 units, representing a year-on-year decrease of 26.02%. Despite the overall volume adjustment, BYD demonstrated strong momentum in international markets, exporting a total of 135,100 new energy vehicles (NEVs) in April. In terms of battery production, BYD's installed capacity for NEV power and energy storage batteries totaled approximately 20.977 GWh for the month. The cumulative installed capacity for 2026 has reached approximately 81.192 GWh.



SAIC Group April Sales and NEV Growth Trends


SAIC Group published its April sales report on May 5, announcing a total volume of 328,800 units, a decrease of 12.66% year-on-year. However, the group's NEV segment showed resilience, with sales reaching 142,500 units, marking an 11.23% year-on-year increase. Cumulative sales for the first four months of the year reached 1,301,600 units, down slightly by 1.5% compared to the prior year.



New EV Entrants Report April Deliveries: Leapmotor Hits New High


Several leading NEV startups released their April delivery performance in early May. Leapmotor achieved a record high by delivering 71,387 vehicles, a significant 73.95% increase YoY. Seres reported April sales of 35,461 units, a minor decrease of 0.78% YoY. Li Auto delivered 34,085 units, representing a slight growth of 0.43% YoY, while Xpeng Motors delivered 31,011 units, down 11.54% YoY. Xiaomi's automotive division reported April deliveries exceeding 30,000 units, a 50% increase MoM. NIO delivered 29,356 new vehicles, reflecting a 22.8% YoY growth.



2nd-Generation Haval H9 2026 Model Market Launch


The 2026 second-generation Haval H9 was officially launched recently, with official pre-sale prices ranging from RMB 199,900 (USD 29,000) to RMB 247,900 (USD 35,900). For a limited time, a special incentive price range of RMB 174,900 (USD 25,300) to RMB 222,900 (USD 32,300) is being offered. The new model features the Coffee OS 3 intelligent cockpit and the Coffee GPT assistant, which functions as a "household encyclopedia" for voice-activated navigation, weather, and problem-solving.


Off-road capabilities have been significantly upgraded, with the entire range coming standard with the TOD intelligent four-wheel-drive system and Mlock mechanical locking. This setup, combined with front and rear mechanical differential locks, enables a "three-lock" hard-core off-road configuration. The 2026 model also adds "Rock" and "Expert" modes to its terrain management system, offering a total of nine driving modes.
