CPCA Projects Stable Passenger Vehicle Delivery Trends for May

According to the latest retail market survey published by the China Passenger Car Association (CPCA) on May 22, leading automotive manufacturers—representing more than 70% of nationwide sales volume—have raised their monthly retail delivery targets by approximately 10% month-on-month. This upward movement aligns with standard seasonal purchasing patterns observed within the domestic market. Preliminary terminal dealership tracking calculations indicate that the total retail volume for the narrow passenger vehicle market in May will reach approximately 1.52 million units, reflecting a 9.9% month-on-month expansion. The new energy vehicle (NEV) sector continues to serve as the primary driver of overall market growth. Monthly NEV retail volume is projected to reach approximately 950,000 units, representing a 12.0% month-on-month acceleration. Based on these statistical projections, the domestic retail penetration rate for electrified vehicles will establish a new milestone at approximately 62.5%.

BAIC Launches BJ40 Extended Range Long-Endurance SUV

BAIC Off-Road officially released the BJ40 Extended Range Long-Endurance Edition on May 21. The rugged SUV carries an initial official guidance price range of RMB 179,800 (USD 26,100) to RMB 209,800 (USD 30,400). After factoring in national trade-in subsidies and manufacturer replacement incentives, the effective entry price drops to RMB 168,900 (USD 24,500). Positioned as a "Super Extended Range" intelligent off-road vehicle, it achieves a CLTC pure electric range of 252 km and a total comprehensive driving range of 1,300 km.

The off-road mechanical platform features a full-time four-wheel-drive architecture driven by front and rear dual electric motors, managing millisecond-level torque adjustments upon detecting wheel slip. The powertrain works in tandem with a central energy lock and mechanical differential locks on both the front and rear axles. According to BAIC technical specifications, this cross-axle locking configuration ensures that even if three wheels completely lose surface adhesion, the single remaining wheel with traction can receive effective torque output to complete recovery maneuvers.
